How to tether your iPhone 3GS in Kuwait?

Posted on 28. Mar, 2010 by in Telecom

since i acquired an iPhone last month, very late adapter, i have been busy trying everything possible without jailbreaking or damaging the original software. I came across the tethering problem today and got a solution to it thanks to Google. the process below can be explained as follows:

The new “iPhone Help Center“, which can be found at help.benm.at, provides the easiest way to enable iPhone Tethering through installing Mobileconfigs directly on your iPhone. No hacking or jailbreaking required! You can also find MMS-Settings for your provider. The Mobileconfig Generator gives you the possibility to create your own Mobileconfig.

here is what you have to do;

  1. go to http://help.benm.at/ from your iPhone Safari
  2. select Tethering under the Features section
  3. look up your country to download a settings profile. in our case Kuwait is not listed so you have to manually create a profile by selecting “create your own”
  4. fill the following blanks;
    1. Carriername: Zain
    2. APN: pps
    3. user: pps
    4. password: pps
  5. click “Download”
  6. a file will be downloaded to your iPhone and if you go now to Settings > General > Network  you will be able to see Internet Tethering option set to off. be aware that sometimes if you click on the tethering option it won’t work for some reason or another, so you have to try a couple or three times to get it to work.
  7. finally turn the tethering on. it is working perfectly for me now with a USB. have fun.

Warning: make sure you don’t exceed your bandwidth limit to not pay extra for your internet usage.

Definitions:

Tethering: Tethering is the use of a mobile device such as a mobile phone to supply Internet access for another device which is otherwise unconnected

    it should but all you have to do is check with them about the configuration for APN and password.

    When i had my internet service from Zain, i asked them if i have to pay extra charged if i exceed the 1GB limit and they said no it won’t, the only think will happen is that the speed will reduced!

    Now the question is will tethering cost me extra payment if i exceeded the i GB limit?
