أخيرا مسلسل كويتي نفخر فيه… ساهر الليل

Finally some production that I am proud of! I was very reluctant to watch any production in Ramadan, mainly because im sick of the same tormented picture of Kuwait society, (Murder, Revenge, Rape, Drugs, Adultery, betrayal, screaming, and of course death), a picture you can see very clearly from the other shows of our big stars. But enough about junk, let talk about this special production.

Saher Al-leel got great marks in my book. It has that Indian movie quality where it is a simple innocent story, a story in which you relate to the characters and love them and feel for them. It’s a simple love story, innocent love, classic love faced with classic culture barriers.

The theme

70’s, the peak of Kuwait shine and development, when we were ahead of the curve, and when the country was full with Kuwaitis. They nailed it. The props in this show where just perfect. the cars, the house, the dresses, just every thing was from that era. It really took me back into time.

The cast

Talk about chemistry, the cast was just right, I was surprised by some of the performances in this show, the funny couple, the nosy girlfreinds, the stubborn aunt, and the wonderful crippled brother, all where perfect and moving. Also, all cast members speak perfect Kuwaiti (hint hint)

The story

Simple, clean, nothing to be ashamed of, love story. It felt like a play or a novel. You can actually watch it with family and enjoy it. Let my under line the word “enjoy” something I found it very rare in other productions.

Directing

Hats off for a director who respects audience’s intelligence. No need to show violence, because we understand, no need to hear someone thinking, because we understand, and no need to say it, we understand. Thumbs up

The crown jewel

Not only the show has a happy ending (which did not spoil our Eid evening) but the last shot was something special, not only you have the two center character clap to the audience marking the end of a play, but the director showed us smartly on the split screen the two character smiling at each other with eyes full of joy, yearning for each other. As if to say for each other “ I love you, I wish we had our lives together, but nevertheless, we are both fine, life goes on”. It’s difficult not to feel sorry for these two, they’re the one who lost… but in away won our affection.

The ending style was very unique and intelligent, the slow motion movement kept us watching till the fade out, just to give us enough time to say goodbye to a beautiful show.

Now I need to find someone who recorded it :)

I have yet to watch this. I completely agree with your post, the bulk of the Kuwaiti dramas I’ve seen before all had some sort of severe violence and abuse, especially towards women. I watched some promotional clips on youtube for this drama and after reading your post, it sounds very promising. Now all that’s left to do is squeeze it into my schedule :P

P.S if you enjoyed this show, I think you also might enjoy Zawarat Khamees (زوارة خميس). I watched this show during Ramadan and I was absolutely entertained by it. One episode even brought me completely to tears, something that’s never happened to me before because of a Kuwaiti drama lol.
