A million years before man, the grazed the vast of empty plain, living by voices only they could hear. They first came to know man as the hunted knows the hunter. For long before he used the horses for his labours, he killed them for meat. The alliance with man forever be fragile, for the fear he struck into their hearts was too deep to be dislodged.
Since that Neolithic moment, when a horse first haltered, there were those among men who understood this. They could see into the creatures soul…and soothe the wounds they found there. The secrets uttered softly into troubled ears….These man were known as the whisperers…

“Dear Reader: this is a very row writing i put together, in the heat of the moment, enjoy ”

The thing about going to work in the city, comes lunch time, you will have plenty of options to choose from. I needed a quick bite. lots of meeting

for this day, and my body is sending a sharp serge of pain into my head telling me, it needs “refueling”

I went to place that i knew of for over 20 years. i am not a regular but i ate there between once in awhile. the reason being is that every time I go there I feel guilty! here is why..

20 years ago, I was young(er) and I was hungry. I went in to eat and the waiter at the time missed up my order. impatient, I start to give the poor soul a piece of my mind. needless to say I regretted it.

from that day on, every time i come in, I see the poor fella avoiding me. or keeping the conversation at a minimum.

I thought about apologizing but it never happened. Months and years passed by, the guy still works there, and i still remember that day every time i see him. and im sure he does too.

I decided to put a stop to this, I decided to talk to him. I finished my food, and i called for him:

me: shlonik

him: tamam baba

me: anta e3arfini

him: ee baba

me: mino ana

him: ziboon

at this point i can see a big comic bubble over his head with a big question mark in it.

me: i had a fight with you 20 years ago (translated)

him: Baba I dont remember what I had this morning for breakfast. alla kareem.

The original title of this short article should have been “I have a dream”, believe me dear reader when I say, that I am not trying to mimic a legendry speech, I am simply trying to state a fact, for this was an actual dream…

In my dream, there were two men having a conversation, a King and a President. The President was Obama, and the king was the king of United States of America!
In my dream the States followed the United Kingdom example where the monarchy sits on the throne while the prime minister ran the country, only in this case he is called President!

Now I am not trying to reform world’s politics nor be politically correct, after all this was a dream!
The topic of the conversation was Chocolate pudding, the President held this small cup of Chocolate pudding not just to admire its taste to his king but to explain how this foreign brand spread throughout the states like a brush fire.

The President was explaining to his King how a small country was able to produce such a brand so quickly and be this popular on the international market, he was using it as an example of things to come, And how this small plastic cup of chocolate pudding is an example of an economic shift.

“We used to send this stuff to them…not the other way around…” said the President. The King responded, “What did you expect… it was only a matter of time before they put all their resources together… I am actually surprised it took them this long!”

my alarm clock started to go off and as I was drifting back to reality, I took one last glance at that small chocolate pudding cup and to my astonishment….
It was made by KDD.

So, here I am sitting in a coffee shop. Finally, after a heavy day at work, its time for me to relax…I don’t like going into crowded places. This place can get pretty full at night, but I’m here at the dead time. Sitting outside, cloudy weather, no kids or big kids (if you know what I mean). Nice chill, it comes with every soft breeze… Very refreshing

Sitting a cross from me, three of my best friends, my book, my coffee, and my music (ipod). And I am planning to enjoy their company. As I reached out towards the table, to grab… grab what??? Which one to start with??

I froze..? My arm was still stretched … all the sudden the entire world stopped, every single moment become an eternity… Everything that was silent started to speak…every object had a voice… and I start to hear a fight in front of me… an argument is more like it.. it was between my friends. All three of them… all three are trying to get my attention, my book, my coffee, and my music. I start to hear:

Book: of course I am your favorite, I am the birth of civilizations, I take you to different worlds, I travel with you through times, I am the keeper of religions, I am the judge of history, I am the picture of every fantasy. Off course you will pick me… where will you be without me…

Music: oh please would you give the man a break, isn’t it enough the years he spent staring at you at school… all those nights and days… no… its time to let you go… it is my time, time to feel, time to dance…time to fly, for I too can travel through the soul and thoughts… I am the joy of every celebration. I give every battle its charge…I give every love its passion…I give every tear its attention…

with me you can think… with me you can feel… I can make you forget…and I can make you remember… things that were…things that are…and some things that have not yet come to pass…I listen to you… you do not listen to me…cause I am your image… surfacing your emotions… to you.

Coffee: hey you two, I think you both have forgotten that this is my place…and that is why the man came here…he came for me… for I require no attention like you both do… I wake up the senses… I alert the mind…and I warm the body…

some hold me with two hands for my warmth…I ignite the thoughts… I race the heart…I can be bold… but also soothing…I am strong when you need me to be… you can take me with you…or you can stay with me.

As I listen in shock to this wonder in front of me, the world gained its motion again… Every thing starts to move again. My table shock so hard, and I thought “the table will have a saying into this?” but it was just the clumsy waiter hitting my table with his tray… only to spill my coffee “friend” over my other two friends… socking the book and destroying my ipod… and all I have now is a silly smile from the waiter saying

“sorry, can I get you another?”

-Musaed

Finally some production that I am proud of! I was very reluctant to watch any production in Ramadan, mainly because im sick of the same tormented picture of Kuwait society, (Murder, Revenge, Rape, Drugs, Adultery, betrayal, screaming, and of course death), a picture you can see very clearly from the other shows of our big stars. But enough about junk, let talk about this special production.

Saher Al-leel got great marks in my book. It has that Indian movie quality where it is a simple innocent story, a story in which you relate to the characters and love them and feel for them. It’s a simple love story, innocent love, classic love faced with classic culture barriers.

The theme

70’s, the peak of Kuwait shine and development, when we were ahead of the curve, and when the country was full with Kuwaitis. They nailed it. The props in this show where just perfect. the cars, the house, the dresses, just every thing was from that era. It really took me back into time.

The cast

Talk about chemistry, the cast was just right, I was surprised by some of the performances in this show, the funny couple, the nosy girlfreinds, the stubborn aunt, and the wonderful crippled brother, all where perfect and moving. Also, all cast members speak perfect Kuwaiti (hint hint)

The story

Simple, clean, nothing to be ashamed of, love story. It felt like a play or a novel. You can actually watch it with family and enjoy it. Let my under line the word “enjoy” something I found it very rare in other productions.

Directing

Hats off for a director who respects audience’s intelligence. No need to show violence, because we understand, no need to hear someone thinking, because we understand, and no need to say it, we understand. Thumbs up

The crown jewel

Not only the show has a happy ending (which did not spoil our Eid evening) but the last shot was something special, not only you have the two center character clap to the audience marking the end of a play, but the director showed us smartly on the split screen the two character smiling at each other with eyes full of joy, yearning for each other. As if to say for each other “ I love you, I wish we had our lives together, but nevertheless, we are both fine, life goes on”. It’s difficult not to feel sorry for these two, they’re the one who lost… but in away won our affection.

The ending style was very unique and intelligent, the slow motion movement kept us watching till the fade out, just to give us enough time to say goodbye to a beautiful show.

Now I need to find someone who recorded it

you might be surprised by my choice of title and how can I relate to Superman let alone our fathers? before I go on, let me put to rest any ideas about flight attempt or dodging bullets, it does not work

now on with the topic, you see jor el, Superman’s father, left him with few memories to guide him through his life on earth, something to go back to in case he needed some guidance. Since i am a comic “freak”, i noticed in my readings that those memories became handy a lot. then i start to wonder “can a few memories can go so far?” I thought its just comics world only, until recently…

i, recently, lost my father, and due to my schooling abroad and his business and jobs, i had a very little time to learn from him. however, lately my memories start to work, same as kal el (Superman). it was so shocking that a five minute visit in a deyaniya with my late father, set the initial stitches of my whole fabric in dealing with people.

a few minutes, passing by, his office, made me learn how to manage business and employees. how he asked, how he behaved, its all recorded in my head. a few memories does work!

the moral of the story is sentimental, but if a few memories can go so far, imagine a life time? if you still have the chance, i beg you, to learn, you will be surprised how far it will take you.

i am a big fan of collage football, i follow it intimitly, lots of people ask me “why dont you follow the NFL?” the answer is long and extensive and i wont bore you with it. however, giving the fact that i have to defand my passion between once in awhile, i kept a keen eye on articles that will help me to do so.

i found this very inspiring short story that talks about how a fan created a tradition at Texas A&M university, enjoy

“no school takes the notion of fans and team working in concert quite to the extent that Texas A&M does. At Kyle Field, the student body spends the entire game on its feet, a symbolic 12th Man, ready to lend a hand in case they are called upon.

The 12th Man is not only a cool tradition; it’s a longstanding one with an organic back story. With injuries decimating his team in the 1922 Dixie Classic, Aggies coach Dana X. Bible was fearful of running out of players in a game against Centre College. So he called E. King Gill, who had recently left the football team to concentrate on basketball, from the stands to fortify his squad.

Texas A&M went on to win the game, 22-14. Gill didn’t play a down, but he did answer the call and stood at the ready, and now the entire Aggies student body does likewise at every game at Kyle Field.

You can pretty much judge a crowd’s level of engagement by the amount of time it spends on its collective feet, and no student body is more committed to its team than the Aggies, who render useless a whole lot of the 83,002 seats at Kyle Field in College Station.”

as expected and just after we wrote about it, the government has banned Scope channel to air the show صوتك واصل which basically mocks the Parliament members and show the dissatisfaction of the people with their conduct and behavior.

of course this comes as a shocker, since such act will only ignite the situation more. yesterday the talk was all about canceling the show.,and how is that goes against the democracy principles. SCOPE Channel vow to take legal action challenging such act.

let the games begen…

Its going to be along month, yes I am not going to make it sound its super easy not to have my fix of coffin every day, nevertheless, it still have a special atmosphere (which hopefully I will experience as soon as I get better). In any case that is not the subject in hand.

I have been watching more TV lately since im almost under house arrest due to my sinuses flaring up. What I saw was actually pleasing, not because its funny or dramatic, its because the first time I see Kuwaiti media revolting

Several programs have deducted their message to revolt against the way Government ran the country and how backward Kuwait is in development and other things. This was clear in طول بالك show showing Kuwait to tourists.

In another program صوتك واصل where they bash the PMs (parliaments members) with funny sketch’s

These programs are voicing our dissatisfaction to the whole world, knowing that in Ramadan everyone is watching. Unfortunately this is the only medium left to communicate with people Mind you this does not promise any changes, but at least its good to let it out there, hopefully someone will feel ashamed enough to do something about it.

lately, Kuwait Media was under a lot of pressure from the government, i think they are fighting back

I was at the barbershop the other day, nothing fancy, just the “7alaq alJami3iya”. Two Pakistani brothers (who don’t talk to each other for a long while as far as I know) run the shop. Nevertheless that’s not why im writing this…

As I was inclined in that big execution chair, I saw this picture hanging on the wall, a head shot of a man, with very tough expression, I can tell from this expression that a smile never landed on this face for a long time, most likely the face muscles forgot the expression. I can tell the man looks a lot older then what he is, a product of a hard life I presume.

This man was obviously there father, they are proud of there father’s memories. But other then pure father to son love and respect, what is the real relation?

You see, sons these days are faced with a difficult dilemma, between the morals and ethics of the past and the needs of the presents. Most sons idealize their fathers, for being tough, faithful, uncompromising… and other macho qualities. Sons admire their fathers and want to be like them, but the truth is… they cant.

Not because they are not raised right, but because these morals are no longer “effective” in our current society. For example, in this age young men need to know the art of compromising, you have to look around you and compromise. In the past father disallow their daughters from traveling alone, study abroad, drive a jeep or a sport car! In the past father look down at a man wearing shorts! Or a long(er) hair style

These things are acceptable by us now, but not by the past generation which we admire.

Us, the next generation, the new fathers, need to get the essence of the idea, to be protective, to provide, to be their. The how and when is up to us! Think of it this way, the rules have changed, but it still a ball game

Will not really but he is in a place where he have to where a bullet Proof vest and carry a small gun all the time. Trust me I told him that Deera Chat do not require such adventure to attract listeners but he insisted to go. Our communication is minimize to a single ping, saying I’m alive and number of lost limbs, thank God so far the number is 0 J. So every day, I get this message” im alive” and I breathe easy for a day.

Now, I really don’t know what he is doing over there or why, but for some reason, he is happy J

Of course I made him promise to write, sorry i meant to talk about his experience in a special Episode which we will record soon inshalla (in addition writing all his belonging to my name, which basically got me one lousy MacBook J ). I asked him to use Deera Chat Twitter to give us an update of his whereabouts but so far nothing.

I think we all missing the “loud” guy, we wish him a safe journey home!

Have you ever been frustrated in your job or at least know someone who is? you see this person bitching and complaining all the time, always so mad at his job or at his boss because of many reasons. To put all the reasons in one bucket, it all boils down to the employee feeling depreciated or at least not recognized.

This fact is the beginning of the time boom.

Employees are humans, and before you crack a smile and say “daah” trust me, lots of bosses forget this fact. Every human being has objectives and goals, a simple thing like a career path, a plan, light at the end of the tunnel; can buy an employee time of hope to be recognized and achieve success. Without that, the job is basically torture every day from 7 AM !

Anyways back to the complaining part, someone feels underappreciated, frustrated, and upset, he or she have two options:

Stay at the job:

If there anything of value, if there is anything keeping you from screaming freedom and leave your job (including good coffee) then its ok to stay. If you feel there is something of value that you cannot find anywhere else, then you have a genuine reason to stay. Lack of other options, is also another good reason to stay. If you are willing to accept how others judge you and scale your ability, and tell you “this is as far as you should go”, then stay at your job and DON’T COMPLAIN.

Leave your job:

If you feel you are better than this and you don’t want to put up with this crap any more, then just leave, you do not need to accept your boss judgment on your ability, if you feel you are better than where you are, then most likely you are better, and if that boss or management don’t see that, then that’s their problem, you go and find you the place which will recognize you, and don’t sit around for long, the clock is ticking, the more you stay at one spot the more you adopt yourself to it and you become it. No better no worse. And with that you have accepted what others think of your abilities. Pick your stuff up; say your goodbyes and leave, and one more thing… DON’T COMPLAIN.

Personally I am for the second option, even if you struggle, if you have to take a pay cut, in the end, when you feel appreciated and challenged in the right way, that.. Will bring the best in you.

MJ, King of Pop, the Moonwalker, the Gloved one, regardless what you think of Michael Jackson, he is part of your life, you grew up with Michael Jackson. I remember trying out the moonwalk and falling down, trying the Afro but didn’t go well with my hair, and looking for that red jacket everywhere.

Its really weird that you miss somebody that you never met. Everybody knew him. Even the ones that hated him, they knew him. If we look at our plays whenever they want to refer to somebody famous or some one with moves, his name pops up.

I remember whenever we wanted to go out to have fun back in the days, we crammed ourselves in one car and blasted “beat it” on full volume.

The world was in shock today over the death of Michael Jackson, and thats not just a statement, it’s a fact, Google was shutdown and so was Twitter today, due to the amount of hits searching for MJ, it was humongous.

On youtube 52 Million watched Thrillers, the all time number one track, another 30 Million watched ABC! It’s all around the world

Of course he is no saint, but that’s ok, he is not supposed to be, but we do have to respect immortals, some people simply do not die even after death. MJ is one of them, I bet you, you will hear his music and his name for another 50 years to come, easy.

I have all of his CDs but I also have special song of his that is so dear me, what is yours?

I always loved Rocky movies; I own them all and I still watch them from time to time (last viewing was with my 4 months old boy). When I heard that they are making a Rocky 6 I thought “please leave him alone”, but when I watched the trailer and heard the music from “going to fly” I was so pumped up and just wanted to see the movie now. With Rocky as the case with star wars, it is not just a movie, it is a lot more. For me, rocky represents the underdog in all of us, it’s a fight between a spirits and the odds. No matter what the challenge is.

There is a new book out called “Running in Rocky’s Famous Footsteps” it talks about people making the trip just to ran up the museum steps and rise their arms in victory just like Rocky. It made me wonder, what does it mean to all of these people? Why do I have the same desire to do the same?

I thought about it and I reached a conclusion, standing on top of those stairs and rising my arms can mean one thing, a sense of achievement, regardless what it is, traveling, losing weight, gaining weight, graduate, start a business, building a house, having a baby, buying a car… what ever you fancy, in the end, it is you against you (as the song “burning hearts” says). And when we conquer what we setout to do, we all want to stand on top of those steps and scream “YO ADRIAN …. I DID IT”

toquote agent Smith of the matrix “we all have purpose in life, without purpose, life is meaningless”. So far most of people i see live to go to work and spend the rest of the time recovering from work or talking about work. Our lives revolves around work. Your daily mood effected by work, your meals effected by work, your sleeping habits effected by work, even your vacation effected by work.

So what are we? Machines! We life to work and serve work, what about the other thing called life, what about enjoying life, or is that confined to two weeks in Europe? what if you hate working for others, what if you hate office hours, or you are made to like the night and not mornings? What if you are a creator and not a doer? What if you are a leader and not a followers? Do you submit yourselves to the mercy of your boss to recognize you? Do you wait for Mr. Boss to set you free?

There is more to life then this, work should be just a tool, a means to an end. The end is to enjoy life. If this is not the objective, then we are simply machines, we will continue to ran until we break down and be replaced. And what is left of us is an old useless machine dusty and slow. Do we really want that? HELL NO, life is alot more then 8 hours a day, there is alot to see, experince, enjoy, and risk out there. we wasted the past, lets not waste the future. let go after it, all of it!

And to quote Queens “gotta find me a future, move out of my way!”

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world aint all sunshine and rainbows, its a very mean and nasty place. And i dont care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it aint about how hard you hit. Its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE. Now if you know what you’re worth then get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willin to take the hits and not pointing fingers saying you aint where you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. COWARDS DO THAT AND THAT AIN’T YOU. You’re better then that!”

All of us read something about how to progress in life, how to succeed. There are lots of ways to control, manage, create, and of course there is the Secret. Yet still, we do not apply this knowledge, as if we don’t want it. Make us wonder why.

Every thing in this world naturally heads to chaos, u leave a room without cleaning it will be come a mess, a garden without care, a business without supervision, all ends up in chaos. We are part of the same universe and we tend to go toward chaos. Even though we know all these tools of success and control, yet we choose not to use them. We complain, when we know we should think positively. We get angry when we should control our emotions. We come late when we should come on time. We stay up late when we should sleep. We eat fat when we should eat healthy… We … U got the picture.

Its the effect of life, we are part of it and its drifting us toward chaos

this is what I thought, until I heard otherwise from a friend that went through a lot in the past 30 years, i’ll tell you who he is, and what he told me in my next post, so stay toned.

think about it, we watch a lot of western movies about fantasy, about a dream come true, about real life figure, about not losing hope, about national pride… and many more, the idea here is to inspire people, to make them go beyond what they can, to plant the desire to achieve. you watch a movie like “applo 13″ and you feel so proud to be an engineer, you watch “thurteen days” and you want to be a politician, the team spirit which you find in “remember the titans” make you want to work with others, and of course beating all the impossible odds in “Rocky”.

my point here is not just list some of my favorite movies, but to reflect this on what we see in our Kuwaiti work. you see when I watch Kuwaiti production, all I see is crying, yelling, screaming, fighting, stealing, dying, cheating, drinking, whoring, drugs, bastards, devoice… you get the idea, nothing to aspire to. quite the opposite, you feel so depressed and crushed after its all over.

some might argue that these are real issues going on in Kuwaiti society, but is that all? there are tons of issues in the western society, but they still prise the good.

Kuwaiti production content with 30 seconds TV ads that suppose to inspire and motivate people, well thats good, but not good enough. we do have great stories to tell, and I’m not talking about an interview with someone to tell them, but a full a production. we do respond to a good work and a good story, we want to be inspire to be better, to build this country again, to be number 1 again. to achieve again, to have a pride again.

its really hard to burn 6-8 hours of your day doing nothing, there is something about the work environment that force you to want to work. even if you are an active person, you can only feel normal if you are working. However, when sitting in such environment with no work, you just sit still and you simply cannot do anything else.

think of it like sea of water, people go there to swim, if you cant swim you simply drawn, there is nothing else you can do, unless you have a boat (an office) then you can escape.

so why is it we feel this way? first of all, the general mode is:

everyone else is working

everyone is typing

everyone is talking work

everyone is in and out of meeting

BUT NOT YOU

you are simply out of place. Now, if you try to read something, the feeling of guilt and the sense “wasting time” sinks in and you just feel bad. you brush it off and put your nose back into your book, but you still feel awkward, especially when you get that half a stair from people walking by. Newspapers are out of the question, you’re better off hinging a sign saying “will work for nothing” so that’s out of the window.

the next thing is you try to fill your inside with the aroma of coffee and tea, you start off with “black, no sugar”, then you move to “with milk and little sugar”, then you wash it with “some water”, and move on to “tea”, all the sudden, the office boy becomes your best friend, and you know you are bugging him when he start knowing your drink before you ask.

you try to chit chat with your busy neighbor, and out of his/her kind heart try to be polite and give you a minute or two, once you start to push it, the important phone call/email will arrive and steal him/her away.

so now you look around, the office boy looks the other way avoiding you, you start looking at the door, you look at your watch, your heart sinks, and you decides to browse the net, only to find that you have such a slow connection that remind you of the dial up days.

your last resort is your mobile, you know you have no new SMS, but you still check it anyway, as if you are imposing your well and applying “the Secret” to receive a new message, and it’s not working. That’s when your body act out of mercy to your mind, calls you for a bathroom break! You run to the bathroom to find it occupied.

you wait, you go in, you come out…..with all determination to find… that damn office boy again

think about it, the best place to mingle with the opposite sex is at work, you are fully insured by the word “colleague” which grantee easy entry and smooth ice breaking. its up to you to push the limits and the moment you encounter resistance, you will be let down gently by the other side to avoid him/her any embarrassment known that s/he still has to deal with such person in the near future, if not the same day. in another word, to avoid making things weird, one side can not embarrass the other, that by itself take out the need of courage in approaching someone, unlike the case anywhere else.

see, the problem in approaching people is that the culture do not approve it, a guy can be put down in harsh way which force him to become even more rude or persistent to avoid further embarrassment, work place take all that away.

its really funny watching a guy trying, being cute and all, its fun to watch. whats even more fun, watching a gal putting her charms to work, dressing all up, smelling good, giving him the look and the cute smile that says “tell me more”.

and don’t get me started on the let down, when someone just crashed and burned, going back to his cubical in defeat, burying his face in his computer screen, gathering his strength and troops to fight another day.

who needs “sex in the city” when you have “dating at work!”
