Hot summery topic…….
Dinar Chat & Deera Chat will alternate episodes for the entire summer, so we thought starting up our summer written post schedule with a HOT topic is the way to go. Few episodes back we mentioned something about political economy and the impact it has on our economic and daily life.
Kuwait is the ideal example of that impact. A quick look into the minor and major events in Kuwait and outside gives a true indication on how politics is a major player in today’s economy for an entire nation. Diplomatic problem between Kuwait and Iran, the threat from the parliament to question the minister of oil, oil prices, power and electricity shortages, laws and regulations, donations to poor & NOT so poor countries, speculations about dissolving the parliament, stocks and real estate status….. These are just few examples on the latest internal and external events involving Kuwait that are related in one way or another to our political economy.
The big question that all of us would like to ask but feel a bit weird to ask is ARE WE MOVING ON THE RIGHT TRACK?. I mean the Kuwaiti investment in some countries might reach something like US$ 4-6 Billions. On the other hand, foreign investments in Kuwait do not exceed US$ 250 Millions. How much are we paying and how much are we getting back in return? Are we investing in countries that really worth investing in? Do we have a secure future in these countries in case something goes hey-wire? Can we trust them in case Kuwait goes into another huge problem god forbid? Are we utilizing our youth and young smart generation or are we depending on expats so much?.
The list of questions can go on and on, but I think it’s time to look deep inside ourselves and ask are we giving this country our 110% of dedication, energy, time, brain, and most of all LOYALTY?
I leave it up to you to answer and my apologies for the HOT topic ……………….
