Makers & Shakers!!!!
Few days ago, a friend of mine asked how much influence political turmoil has on business stability and economy?. I thought to myself good question but has nothing to do with us in Kuwait since we -thank god- have no such political turmoil to begin with. Then I had a deeper look into his question and went “oh yes brother we sure do“!!!! Maybe not as obvious as the problems in Pakistan or even Lebanon, but we do…..
Now the question again was how much influence political turmoil has on business stability and economy?.
The body causing this political turmoil in Kuwait is the PARLIMENT and I am sure to most of you this did not come as a surprise. We all agree on one principle and that is Kuwait needs bright brains and fresh blood to get back to the so-called Golden Age by re-establishing Kuwait as the Pearl of the Gulf. This can only be possible if three major criterions are made available:
1- Decision makers in which the government has the sole responsibility to assure the right decisions are made and implemented.
2- Parliament members acting as the channel where all decisions must go and discussed among the members to achieve satisfaction and maximize the benefits.
3- Bright minded people to appreciate and follow the decisions without abusing their rights or freedom.
Kuwait has all of the above. HOWEVER, when it comes to the second criteria members of the parliament act as decision SHAKERS and not wise men as the newspapers like to call them!!!!!!!
So the question still stands, do we really have political turmoil in this democratic country? Moreover, my question is do we really need this parliament? Are we better off without it? Are the members (a.k.a. wise men) thinking about what Kuwait really needs and not what they need?
At the end, god bless Kuwait and its people and god help us all!!!!

atsooo: Thanks for the comment. I have to agree with you that we (people of Kuwait) have to be responsible when electing members of the parliament. Having said that I still believe that most of us know as much information about members of the parliament as we know about Chinese culture!!!!
I mean people are good in nature and have good faith toward others and that’s why we trust people who don’t deserve the trust. As for parliament members, I think they worry about their future (especially financially) more than they worry about Kuwait and its people. A good example is when they passed women right to vote bill. We all know that some of the members who ended up agreeing, they showed clear objection to the bill when it was discussed. Now if you go deeper into the change of heart they showed, we know very well that these people had just a few extra millions added to their bank account. At the end of the day, the only thing that’s getting hurt by all this non-sense is KUWAIT. Cheers

I can’t comment on this subject that deep! I don’t live in Kuwait and don’t know who those things are really going! But I do remember 15 years ago everything was blamed on the Parliament! And yes men who complained went and elected the same man they have been complaining about his decisions for the last 4 years again!
So From being outsider I will have to agree with atsooo!! I think the problem is not in the Parliament, but it is in the people who don’t want to change! Kuwait needs better people and I know for facts there are better people to be elected to get the country running from all directions better than it is now!
I hope a day would come when I can see Kuwait government and people walking hand by hand in to a better future!!!

Nora-Cassandra: Thanks for the comment and glad to have you back. I think Kuwait needs to educate its people about the responsibilities of parliament members. I mean it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that most parliament members are there for 2 reasons: 1- To be rich or get richer. 2- To make as many “wasta” as they can for people who don’t even deserve it. I hope one day this so-called parliament can make and shake the RIGHT decisions……
