The Kuwait Future Generations Fund
Today, KIA manages the Kuwait General Reserve Fund, the Kuwait Future Generations Fund, as well as any other moneys committed by the Ministry of Finance.
To put KIA’s size into perspective, the Kuwait Future Generations Fund has 10% of annual oil revenues added to it. As of fiscal year 2004/2005, the annual contribution to the Kuwait Future Generations Fund was valued at 896.24 million.
This week we are talking about the type of investments this fund makes and their strategy in making such investments, so listen up and let us know what you think.

(Between brackets): Is there any chance of manipulation on those numbers as I am shocked from it too. One possible reason for it if its true is many Kuwaities who are not able to travel abroad tend to book few hotel nights to enjoy quite and peace.
Some interesting numbers and facts really in the show I didn’t know much about and can’t add much to it. One thing though I still like to note is, I was just talking to my friend few days ago about the local TV channels and how they are condensed with nothing but Talk shows, celebrities presenting the shows most of the time don’t know what the hell the topic is all about. Comparing this to hobbiest doing FREE podcasting, a lot better presentation and doing their research homework before the show. Salute you guys and keep up the good work.
Ohh and, you are Qabas biased

Actually, I just remembered this. If hotels are still fully booked, perhaps its worth mentioning I just got back from Khiran and only 25 chaletes were reserved. Rest all empty. Perhaps it’s dust we should thank here.

Bashar: Thanks for the comment as always. I have to agree with you that the hotel guests might have been made up and there’s no true way to find out. I hope that the numbers mentioned in the show have been well studied because our present and future generations depend on this fund.
As for actors and Celebes having their own talk shows, I have one thing to say “THEY SUCK” and sorry for my honesty. Cheers and god bless…..

Dr. Bo Rashid and Ali, very interesting topic oo ye36ikum il3afiya. Yet again I find myself posting a comment a bit late as I tend to do with Deera Chat. With regards to the “beyn 8oseen”, I agree with Ali about Kuwait appealing to families as a conservative country and I am certain that many people have family in Kuwait, it seems that we’re all related in some way or another in the Gulf.
However I think that the appeal of Kuwait might also lie in the fact that its conservatism is not concealing extremism, which is arguably the case in a few of our neighbouring countries. So to some people in the region Kuwait is actually quite liberal and, assuming that our hotels are indeed full during holidays, who knows? It could very well be that some poeple come to the country as much for its liberal attitude on some issues (eg. towards women in some cases, though by no means in all cases) as others do for its conservative, family-friendly atomsphere.
As for the comment about Kuwait’s investment abroad, once again while I agree that the U.S. economy can appear more stable than most others, I think that if stability is part of the criteria then we really should be investing a great deal more in Japan, the world’s second largest economy. By allocating so much of our investing capacity in the American market, I am not an economist but it seems to me like we are “putting all our eggs in one basket”.
Thanks again for the informative podcast and hope you keep up the good work.

q8tiya: Thanks for the comment and trust me it’s never too late to have smart comments like yours. Now for between brackets, I personally believe it’s not the conservative issue that brings people to Kuwait. I think it has to do with the relatives and more liberal issues and I might be wrong.
As for investing in the USA, I understand clearly that the US economy is protected by so many countries yet again I would like to see us invest in more countries and definitely Japan is an excellent option. Kuwait needs to think outside the square we live in and reach others in its investments and not only donations!!!!! Cheers and thanks once again…
